Influencers cannot be underestimated; Bella Hadid, Megan Fox, and Megan Thee Stallion all wore French manicures this year and obviously, we were affected. Hadid added a white swirl for her, Fox has replaced the classic white piercings with a rainbow color, and Megan Thee Stallion took her advice and followers with a colorful remake. Kylie Jenner was also ahead of the curve, apply gentle color ombre tips back in 2019.
The 2021 version of the French manicure can be anything you want – but adding color and playing with the shape of the piercings seems to be the easiest way to get in. According to nail salon founder Nadine Abramcyk, “People are now doing [the French manicure] their own. The classic red top with a neutral base, is almost certainly the style we’re seeing this year, paired with more almond-shaped nails,” she says. New York Times.
You can also experiment with negative space; some manicurists are create outlines for tips or line them with dots. Manicurist Tom Bachik calls it “American Manicure” Charming, “Everyone can personalize this look with their favorite color – whether all fingertips are one color or every fingertip is a different color.”
There are no rules – experimentation is the new French (and American) manicure.
