Music video hosting network Vevo has released the results of their most viewed videos for 2021 (Vevo specifically hosts most of the popular videos we watch on YouTube, so you’ll often see the icon “Vevo” on the screen in the bottom left corner.) The big winner of the year – both globally and in the US – is The Weeknd’s The clip “Save Your Tears” is set in a creepy masquerade ball and is directed by Cliqua. After performing at the Super Bowl LV Halftime Show in February, The Weeknd has seen an increase in video engagement and video reaching 615 million views in 2021 globally, including 102.9 million views. from America.
Globally speaking, the top three videos of the year were rounded off by Karol WOOD and Mariah Angeliq’s “El Makinon” with 556 million views worldwide, and Black Eyed Peas featuring Shakira’s “Girl Like Me” with 519 million views. United States, Lil Baby’s “On Me” came in second with 94 million views domestically and Lil Nas X’s “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” came in third with 91.3 million views.
Lil Baby is the most viewed artist in the US with a total of 770 million views (The Weekend comes in second with 559 million,) while Karol G takes the Global crown with 3.11 billion views, narrowly falling short The Weekend’s 3.10 billion global views.
