We had to cook every meal for our six kids in the microwave after B&Q took seven MONTHS to install our kitchen

One FAMILY out of eight were forced to live on microwaved meals and baked beans for months.

The James family say they are in the final stages after B&Q took seven months to install their new kitchen.

Dad Aidan James, 29, and fiancée Lauren, 30, with six children one, two, four, five, seven and eight, set up the kitchen for their home in Stockton-on-Tees, Co Durham, on May 2020.

The fitting date has been set for June, but the room is still empty this week, Teesside Live report.

However, B&Q has since confirmed that the family will have a kitchen in time for Christmas.

Aidan said the family has faced endless delays, with their kitchen start date being pushed back four times.

He said the old kitchen was demolished at the end of October, and since then they have received numerous excuses.

Aidan sulked: “Just one reason after another, from people catching Covid to his truck breaking down, then waiting for a part for his truck.

“Then he ran out of excuses and would just text due to circumstances.

“So this is where we are. No kitchen as of October 29 and only a microwave to feed a family of eight.”

The father-of-six said the boring snacks and beans took a financial toll on the family.

The situation is pressing because one of their children, four, has autism and struggles with not being able to eat home-cooked family meals.

Aidan said Lauren and the kids “were fed up with microwaves and takeout,” adding: “Me too, trust me.”

B&Q has offered the parents £200 compensation, which will be paid out once the work is completed, Aidan said.

The father said a kitchen repairman showed up after local media contacted B&Q on December 21.

But kind neighbors offered to help in case the family couldn’t cook Christmas dinner.

“I couldn’t be more grateful to have neighbors like us,” Aidan said.

A B&Q spokesperson said: “We’re sorry Mr James has experienced delays in fitting out his new kitchen.

“Our Stockton store colleagues have been working to resolve the situation and we can confirm that Mr James will have a kitchen up and running in time for Christmas.

“We apologize for the inconvenience caused.”
