Wayne Rooney confronts FA rap as chief demands explanation from Man Utd legend for claiming he tried to injure John Terry

The FA has asked Wayne Rooney to explain his comment that he wanted to injure John Terry.

The Manchester United legend, 36, reveals that he changed his studs during the clash with Chelsea in April 2006 to ‘hurt someone’.

“I knew they were going to win that game. You could feel they were a better team at the time so I changed my opinion.

“The studs were legal but thought if there was a challenge there, I knew I wanted to take it in the right way, basically. I actually did.

“John Terry left the stadium on crutches. I left a hole in his foot and then I signed his shirt after the game.

“A few weeks later, I sent it to him and asked for my nail to be returned.

“If you look back at the moment they celebrated, JT took the crutches from that ball.”

Terry laughed at the revelation about Twitter when he took to social media to shed light on Rooney’s comments.

He quips: “Is this when you put your nail in my leg?”
