LIVERPOOL full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold scored a goal in the 3-1 win over Newcastle … with a little help from referee Mike Dean.
The British International is named Premier League November Player of the Month earlier this week – and he built that momentum at Anfield on Thursday evening.
With Liverpool recovered 1-0 to lead 2-1, Alexander-Arnold stepped up to make a thunderous shot from 25m into the top corner to seal 3 points.
And he asserted after the game that the goal was far from coming.
He said: “I’ve been waiting for that [type of goal] in five years.
“I had a few from the edge of the box and pulled them. I caught that one sweetly and it nestled in the top corner, a sweet hit and put the game in bed.”
Fans also picked up the fact that the referee Dean seems to run over the ball and deliver a dummy leading to the goal.
Reacting to the hilarious move from the official, one fan said: “It’s great to see Mike Dean play the dummy for Trent Alexander Arnold. Mr Dean definitely has a soft spot for the top six.”
Another added: “So glad Mike Dean ran the screen for Trent Alexander-Arnold there.”
A third said: “It will all be about Alexander-Arnold’s strike but Mike Dean’s fake run is worth mentioning.”
Alexander-Arnold also settled the controversy surrounding Liverpool’s equalizer.
Isaac Hayden holds his head inside Newcastle In the penalty area when Diogo Jota finished the goal of the Liverpool player in the first half.
But Alexander-Arnold doesn’t feel the home team did anything wrong by failing to get the ball rolling.
He added: “You don’t really see who’s on the ground, who’s on top.
“But if it was a head injury, the referee has to stop. He didn’t. We played to the whistle and scored. We didn’t cheat or do anything unsportsmanlike. “
And Alexander-Arnold is being blown away by his Egyptian teammate in the season so far.
He said: “It’s crazy. He’s the best player in the world, needless to say.
“He’s doing everything in the game. He wants to break every record in the books. He wants to put his name in the history books.”
Liverpool is currently one point behind leaders Manchester City and three points ahead of Chelsea Thomas Tuchel’s team drew 1-1 with Everton.
“It’s about making sure we’re consistent and win every game we can,” Alexander-Arnold said.
“Games are dense and fast, so any small slippage can be costly when it comes to April or May.
“Until we are informed otherwise we will be there every day [training] and make sure we are fit for Sunday, a big game against Tottenham. “
