CAPE VERDE winger Garry Rodrigues came on from the bench to score one of the goals of the tournament in a 1-1 draw against hosts Cameroon.
The 31-year-old was brought on in the first half as the Blue Sharks followed Vincent Aboubakar’s fifth strike in the competition.
And he made an immediate impact when scored with a subtle heel strike after being picked up by Kenny Rocha Santos.
Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana was completely taken aback by the effort when the ball grazed him and went into the net.
It was Rodrigues’ first goal since he netted against Liberia in October in Cape Verde’s 2-1 win in World Cup qualifying.
The Olympiacos forward has yet to score for the Greek side since joining in September, he has picked up a black in his opening ten games.
Fans fell in love with his cheeky attack on social media, as one user tweeted: “What an equalizer.”
Another commented: “One of the best goals of the tournament.. Quality!”
A third added: “Was it Garry Rodrigues’ best goal of the tournament?
TikTok Sports then commented: “Garry Rodrigues walked out of the dressing room late at half-time, being served then scoring a beautiful goal. Be like this man.”
This fan posted: “A ridiculously smart Cruyff finish from Garry Rodrigues.”
Meanwhile, one simply said: “Gorgry Rodrigues great finish.”
Even though Cape Verde finished third in Group A, they were still able to advance to the Round of 16 as one of the four best third-placed nations.
Meanwhile Cameroon finished as the group winner having picked up seven points from their three matches.
