But from Ukraine comes even sadder news – when it became known that Putin has destroyed an entire CITY of 21,000 inhabitants, while the horrific battle grows bloodier.

The city and administrative center of Volnovakha were completely obliterated during the annihilation of Russia, the regional governor revealed.

Russian forces have also been accused of gunning down women and children – killing seven civilians trying to flee a village near Kyiv.

Russian-backed separatists on Friday claimed to have seized the strategic town of Volnovakha, which is the same size as Truro in Cornwall.

Pavlo Kyrylenko, the governor of Donetsk region, said most civilians in Volnovakha had fled – but little was left of the city.

He told reporters today: “Volnovakha, with its infrastructure, generally no longer exists.”

Terrible images showed Russian soldiers and armored vehicles in Volnovakha – surrounded by burned buildings in the completely burned city.

It comes after defiant Volodymyr Zelenskyy vowed Russia would take Kyiv only if Vladimir Putin’s forces “leveled it” while the Ukrainian capital braced for a siege.

The battle for the capital rages on as Russian forces close in and brave Ukrainian soldiers plant tank traps in the streets to repel invaders.

Putin’s Troops are approaching and are believed to be only 15 miles from the city while frightened Ukrainians continue to flee their homes.

It comes after Russia was accused of killing seven people – including a child – who were making a last-ditch attempt to flee the war zone.

Ukrainian intelligence accused Russia of firing on a convoy of civilian evacuees from the village of Peremoha in the Kyiv region.

They said in a statement: “After the attack, the occupiers forced the remains of the column to return to Peremoha and will not let them out of the village.

“The Russians shot a column of women and children as they tried to leave the village of Peremoha in the Kyiv region along an agreed ‘green’ corridor. Seven people died, including a child.”
