Vadyn King’s mother told Eyewitness News that her daughter happened to be sleeping in a chair when bullets flew past their home early Sunday morning.
The bedroom window was pierced by bullets, the glass was broken, as was the bullet hole through the brick in the house.
The child’s mother said the children had crawled into her room safely, and when they were able to turn on the lights, she realized her daughter was clutching her bleeding eye.
Paramedics found bullets that had also grazed the girl’s arms and legs.
Vadyn, still in the ICU at Texas Children’s Hospital, is at risk of losing all of his vision in his left eye due to the bullet.
“She is as strong as she can be right now,” her cousin said. “She tells everyone to be strong, she’s okay. She wants to meet her sisters.”
Vadyn’s two sisters, aged 10 and 14, were also in the house when the gunfire broke out.
The family has set up a GoFundMe . account to help with hospital costs.
“Our detectives and our crime scene unit are processing the scene and conducting interviews to see what we can find out,” HPD Commander Jonathon Halliday said in the morning. Sunday. “We don’t know the engine right now. There are some surveillance videos, but we’ve only had an initial look. So the only description we have right now is an SUV with three men wearing it. hoodie.”
Due to foggy conditions on Sunday morning, police said the SUV’s license plate could not be seen in the surveillance video.
