WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The United States has anecdotal evidence that Russian troop morale is slipping in some units in Ukraine as the war enters its fourth week, a senior US defense official said on condition of anonymity on Thursday.
“We have certainly received anecdotal evidence that morale is not high in some units,” the official told reporters, also using the word “mark” to describe this without citing evidence. Reuters could not independently confirm the account.
“We believe some of this is due to poor leadership, a lack of information given to the troops about their mission and objectives, and I think disillusionment because they (by the Ukrainians) have put up such fierce resistance that like they did,” the official said.
