UN sovereign Bachelet announces sentencing Suu Kyi in ‘sham trial’ – statement | WSAU News / Talk 550 AM · 99.9 FM

GENEVA (Reuters) – United Nations human rights chief Michelle Bachelet on Monday voiced regret over the sentencing of ousted Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi to four years in prison by a court. military sentence and called for her immediate release.
She said in a statement released by her Geneva office she insisted Suu Kyi “closed another door for political dialogue” in Myanmar, where the military took power on February 1, and “will only deepen the rejection of the coup”.
“The conviction of the State Counselor following a sham trial in secret procedure before a military-controlled court is nothing but politically motivated,” Bachelet added.
