The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning as a thunderstorm is set to hit southern England.

There is a chance Sunday night’s thunderstorms will cause flooding and disruption across much of south-west England, according to the Met.

Flooding or lightning strikes could mean delays and some cancellations of train and bus services, the Met Office said. The addition of spray and sudden flooding could result in difficult driving conditions and some road closures with a small chance of power outages to homes, services and businesses.

“Although locations affected by thunderstorms are uncertain, some locations are likely to experience a combination of heavy rain, frequent lightning and hail on Sunday night,” the Met Office said in a statement.

“Should thunderstorms develop, they are likely to move north from the south coast into parts of south Wales, southern England and East Anglia on Sunday evening, before gradually weakening on Monday morning. While some locations remain dry, some locations may experience 20-30mm of rain in under an hour, with frequent lightning and hail added hazards.”
