DUSTIN POIRIER finally got his shot at lightweight supremacy when he took on Charles Oliveira for the 155lbs belt at UFC 269 tonight.
Oliveira won the title by defeating Michael Chandler passed TKO earlier this year and he couldn’t have had a more elaborate first defense to start his reign.
Poirier could have gotten the title a little earlier than December, but he instead opted for a summer trilogy rematch for Conor McGregor.
The diamond won that match via TKO in the first round, leaving himself a perfect substitute for a clash with Oliveira, one of the deadliest drivers in the UFC.
