UCLA ‘mass shooting threat’ investigated after researcher’s ‘cold 800-page manifesto email sent to staff’

The University of California, Los Angeles Police Department is currently investigating reports of a philosophy researcher sending threatening emails to faculty and students.

Screenshots of an email allegedly sent by the department chair to the philosophy department were posted on UCLA Reddit, warning students and faculty about the researcher.

“As his whereabouts are still unsolved, out of an abundance of caution, everyone is allowed and I would strongly advise you to keep your parts remotely until further notice,” reads the email.

The email continues with examples of threats from the researcher that have exhibited “very erratic behavior” since last spring.

“He left the area last June, but his whereabouts are currently under investigation as he sent a series of threatening emails today. [sic] to many people in the department and many others.

“The document includes a video titled ‘UCLA Philosophical Mass Shooter’ and an 800-page manifesto with specific threats against certain members of the department.”
