Ubisoft gives NFTs to employees despite Quartz backlash

Ubisoft decided to give its employees commemorative NFTs despite the unrelenting backlash they faced after announcing Quartz.

In December 2021, Ubisoft announced Quartz. This is their new NFT platform where players can buy usable non-fungible tokens. These include unique weapon skins and cosmetic items that the player can equip in the game.

Not surprisingly, the announcement was met with fierce criticism. The comments called for the company to be “better” and Ubisoft removed the announcement video after 95% of respondents didn’t like the video.

Despite the outcry against the change, Ubisoft is continuing to push for NFTs. A Ubisoft executive recently stated that the backlash was due to players “Don’t understand.” However, giving NFTs to employees is reportedly causing some to question which party is actually not “taking it.”

According to the report from Kotaku, Ubisoft recently offered developers working on Ghost Recon Breakpoint a free NFT. Breakpoint is a test facility for Ubisoft’s Quartz NFT machines.

“With the launch of the Ubisoft Quartz platform in December, we thought about creating an exclusive digit for you, ‘limited 20th anniversary Ghost Recon!'” Ubisoft wrote in an announcement to employees. Breakpoint member, “If you want to get this exclusive [NFT]We will put it in your crypto wallet on March 9.”

The exclusive NFT is a dark gray baseball cap with the Ghost Recon 20th Anniversary logo stamped on the front. Since Breakpoint is the only Ubisoft title that currently supports Quartz NFT, developers can play their own hard work with the hat they can model themselves.

Ubisoft has seen firsthand what the majority of players think of the concept of NFT in gaming.

Giving away NFTs to developers is ironic after Ubisoft employees recently reported their distaste for Quartz Digits. Ubisoft employees called Quartz “nasty” and questioned whether the effort was worth the negative publicity.

Although Ubisoft has yet to comment on this most recent NFT news, audience on Twitter weighed in with their dismay. We will continue to update our readers as more news comes out.
