Police say SEVERAL was injured and taken to hospital after a major altercation at a park in Texas on Valentine’s Day.
It was around 3 p.m. at Beckendorff Park, located in the 1800 block of Katyland Drive, when the altercation broke out, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
Seven people were taken to hospital – four on the ground, two on a Life flight and one in a personal vehicle. Two people sent via Life Flight are in critical condition with stab wounds.
Police said they believe one of the victims is 18 years old and the other may be a minor.
HCSO spokesman Thomas Gilliland said authorities had no information on the “connections” to the war. It was initially believed that the fight started between the two girls, but the official cause remains unknown.
Gilliland said in a press conference that officers spoke to witnesses, most of whom were minors, to determine the cause of the altercation.
“It’s not like these things happen every day,” he said.
During the press conference, Gilliland estimated that the incident involved 11-18 people, including both men and women. There are two suspects, both at the hospital.
Police said a knife and other blunt tools were recovered at the scene.
The fight started at Paetow High School, according to District 5 authorities, but it ended at the park. It is not known whether all those involved attended the school.
In a statement, Katy Independent School District officials said that multiple students “are believed to have participated in the melee.”
“Anyone found to be involved in the incident will be disciplined in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and Discipline Management Plan, as well as any potential criminal consequences,” reads the statement. .
“Out of an abundance of caution, Katy ISD police will also be assigned to patrol the area until the investigation is complete.”
Gene and Nichole Hart’s 17-year-old son parked near Beckendorff Park to go to a nearby school. When he turned around, he noticed someone had broken into it.
The teenager called his parents for help, telling them about the war.
Gene said: “The next thing I knew, I heard him screaming that they had knives and they were fighting. “You’re listening to it on your cell phone, you just hear the commotion. You couldn’t tell what was being said, but I knew at the time it wasn’t good.”
