Two decomposed bodies found at home of former Rhode Island mayor

Two decomposed bodies were found Monday at the home of a former longtime Rhode Island mayor, according to a report.

The shocking discovery was made by police in the town of Woonsocket, according to WJAR, where an elderly man and woman were found at the home of former Woonsocket Mayor Susan Menard.

Menard served as mayor for 14 years, the city says.

Menard served as the city’s chairwoman for more than a decade, beginning her term in 1995 before leaving office in 2009, the city said. Her tenure as mayor appears to be the longest in the city’s history.

It is not yet known if Menard is one of the two bodies found in the house, the TV station reported.

Police reportedly said the bodies were “profusely decomposed” and were being examined by the coroner. Authorities also said there was no evidence of criminal behavior at the time, WJAR reported.

Further information, such as how long the bodies were there, was not available on Monday evening.

Woonsocket has a population of more than 40,000 and is less than 20 miles from Providence.
