Twitch streamer Kelly ‘kjanecaron’ Caron nearly burned down her kitchen as part of a subathon for viewers on a cooking stream.
Following Ludwig’s resounding success with his record-breaking Subathon, streamers on Twitch hosting subathons with larger and wilder venues have become the norm for the live streaming platform.
For a streamer, this drive for content almost had disastrous results. During a recent “uncovered subathon,” Kelly cooked for her viewers with an overheated skillet and smoked the room.
After the pan burst into flames, Kjanecaron forgot about oil safety 101 (here’s one freshener for your convenience) and let the pan run to her sink.
After splashing water on the fiery pan, creating a larger flame due to the combination of water and oil, Kelly swung the pan around and spread an oily flame across her stove.
Not sure what to do, the streamer shouted “oh sh*t, oh f**k, f**kf**kf**k” before asking her viewers for help.
She yelled “help” to the strangers who were watching her on the internet, and then yelled, “I don’t know what to do! Help, I don’t know what to do.”
Reactions on Reddit have been a mix of sympathy and disparagement surrounding the fiery escapade. With one user claims: “Your hand is burned. It’s obviously easy to laugh and point out the many mistakes she’s made, but in a stressful situation like this, I totally understand panicking and having no idea what to do.”
After urging her viewers to share the clip of her lighting a small flame, Kelly left her stream live as she headed to get “bandages” for her injured hand.
Responding to criticism that pushing for the video to go viral is an irresponsible act, kjanecaron closed her stream by saying, “Well, if I want to fuck myself up, at least let me take advantage of it.”
