(Hill) – Former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows was reportedly revealed in a new book that was previously President Trump tested positive for coronavirus three days before his first debate against the then Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden.

In “The Chief’s Chief,” Meadows writes that although Trump knew that in order to participate in the debate, each candidate had to “test negative for the virus within seventy-two hours of the start… Are not will stop [Trump] don’t go out there,” The Guardian, which obtained a copy of the book, reported.

Immediately after receiving the positive result, Trump reported the test again and received a negative result.

According to Meadows, Trump’s initial positive test on September 26, 2020 shocked the White House. He recalled the White House doctor’s call when Trump was scheduled to take off on Marine One, according to The Guardian.

“Stop the president from leaving,” Meadows said Sean Conley told him. “He just tested positive for Covid.”

Meadows later added that the former president’s response to the news “rhymes”[d] with “Oh spit, you must drive me.”

At the time, it was determined that the positive result came from an old set of models, and Trump would be retested using the “Binax system,” Meadows said, according to The Guardian.

“[W]I was hoping the first test was a false positive,” he added.

Meadows recalled calling the president back with news of the negative test, which he said Trump was “fully allowed to insist as if nothing had happened,” the news agency noted.

However, the former chief of staff has said that he still “instructed everyone on the team to treat him as if he were positive” during his scheduled trip to Pennsylvania.

“I don’t want to take any unnecessary risks,” Meadows writes, “but I also don’t want to warn the public if there is nothing to worry about – which, according to the new, much more accurate test, is not. . . ”

It wasn’t until October 2, days after the Biden debate, that Trump announced that he had tested positive for COVID-19 and that he went to the hospital that day.

“The story about me having COVID before or during the first debate is Fake News,” Trump said in a statement.

“In fact, a test showed that I did not have COVID before the debate,” he added.
