Trevor Noah taunts Washington for hosting a superspreader event

Comedian Trevor Noah ridiculed Washington for hosting what he called a “superspreader event” during Saturday night’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

“It is my great honor to speak at the nation’s premier superspreader event tonight,” he said, laughing.

The host of The daily News mocked Washington’s elite for hosting an indoor mass gathering just weeks after several members of the Biden administration and members of Congress contracted Covid-19 following the Gridiron Dinner, another formal event in Washington.

“Seriously, what are we doing here? Didn’t any of you learn anything from the Gridiron dinner? Nothing at all?” he said.

“You’ve spent the last two years telling everyone the importance of wearing masks and avoiding large indoor gatherings, and the second someone offers you a free dinner, you all turn into Joe Rogan,” said Mr Noah, referring to the podcast host, who has frequently peddled misinformation about the effectiveness of Covid-19 vaccines.

He noted how senior White House medical adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci who dropped out of dinner.

Mr. Noah also pointed to President Joe Biden’s low approval ratings and his propensity for gaffes. He noted Mr Biden saying Russian President Vladimir Putin could not remain in power, which angered the Russian President until he learned that “nothing Biden wants is going to get done.”

Up to this point, Mr. Noah poked fun at Sen. Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona, one of the Democrats who stalled Mr. Biden’s Build Back Better legislation for opposing tax increases.

“Who would have ever thought that we would see the day in American politics when a senator could be openly bisexual but covertly Republican,” he said.

Mr. Noah also poked fun at various other politicians, including Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and his attempts to outflank former President Donald Trump from the right, promoting vaccine skepticism and his signing of the state’s Don’t Say Gay,” which limits how LGBTQ+ issues are discussed in classrooms.

“Ron doesn’t even tell people if he got the booster shot, or as they say in Florida, ‘don’t ask, don’t tell,'” he said, referring to the now-lifted ban on gays serving openly in the military.

Similarly, Mr. Noah poked fun at Fox News and their propensity to ask about Mr. Biden’s son, Hunter.

“I think people need to be held accountable for using their father’s name to get ahead in life, and I can’t think of anyone better able to ask for that than Peter Doocy,” he said. Mr. Doocy is the son of fox & friends Co-host Steve Doocy.

Mr. Noah didn’t stop there, stepping in to CNN+ when it’s down and snubbing NBC News’ Chuck Todd for his lack of follow-up questions. Trevor Noah taunts Washington for hosting a superspreader event
