Fans have reached out with support and condolences after Trevor Noah paid a touching tribute to his late grandmother.
The comedian and Moderator of The daily News shared a lengthy message on Instagram, along with a video of himself and Frances Noah, the woman he dubbed “Gogo.”
“This morning our family buried the oldest member of our clan, Frances Noah, or as most of us called her, Gogo,” he wrote. “My grandmother was born in 1927 and although she was 95 she still had the best memory of all of us.
“Every moment she shared with her felt like a magical journey through time as she shared all of the family’s greatest joys, losses, achievements and milestones.
“Her house in Soweto was not just a home, it was a refuge, a place where other women came when they had nowhere else to go, a place where members of the community gathered each week to socialize gathered in prayer, a place where everyone would be guaranteed to feel the love emanating from her mighty breast,” he continued.
“Gogo” was a familiar face to many of Noah’s fans, having appeared several times on his Comedy Central series.
“I know many of you have come to love Gogo from afar and thank you for the condolences and blessings you have sent her in memory,” he added. “I cried all week celebrating the greatest ‘movie’ I’ve ever seen. A story that began with my first breath and ended with her last.
“A woman who showed me the true definition of unconditional love. She passed away peacefully and even blessed us with one last Mother’s Day which she thoroughly enjoyed. Hamba Kahle Gogo.”
