A SCHOOLGIRL has died after accidentally strangling himself on the ropes of a garden swing, an inquest has heard.

Grace Patricia Hamnet, 11, was chatting with friends on a group video call when tragedy struck in May of this year.

An inquest heard how an unconscious Grace was discovered by her horrified mother, whose screams alarmed a neighbor who jumped over a fence to help, before performing CPR. create.

She was in cardiac arrest when an ambulance arrived at her home in Widnes, Cheshire, and efforts to resuscitate her continued throughout the journey to Whiston Hospital.

She was eventually stabilized and remained “deeply unconscious” before being transported to Alder Hey in Liverpool, where she tragically passed away five days after the horrific crash.

The inquest heard results of an MRI scan confirming that Grace suffered a “devastating traumatic brain injury” with neurosurgeons concluding that nothing more could be done.

Grace, who was born in Warrington, died on May 28.

An inquest into her death was held at Warrington Coroner Court today, where the tragic details of her last conversations with friends have been revealed.

Written evidence from Detective Inspector Robert Lees, of the Cheshire Constabulary, was also read out at the hearing.

It read: “She had a group chat with her schoolmates. They pointed out that in the group chat over the phone, Grace showed them the rope and said ‘I’ll be able to thread my neck through this,’ and hang me. She said so. jokingly.”

The hearing was told that Grace had previously said this on WhatsApp.

After telling this to her friends, Grace’s phone pointed to the sky and there was no further contact from her, the investigator heard.

Her friends became frightened and informed their parents, who contacted the relevant authorities.

DI Lees said Grace’s mother made it clear that her daughter would not harm herself and was a happy child.

She just received a good report from the school, the hearing was told.

A Cheshire Constabulary investigation confirmed there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding Grace’s death and no third party involvement.

“There hasn’t been any concern from anyone about Grace,” DI Lees said.

Assistant coroner Heath Westerman accepted the medical cause of death – hypoxic brain injury from strangulation.

He stated that there was no evidence of intent to self-harm and concluded that Grace’s death was accidental.

He said: “My heart goes out to Grace’s parents, especially her mother, for the pain she went through to find her daughter in trouble.”
