Tory Lanez has been arrested again after violating pre-trial court orders in his assault trial against Megan Thee Stallion, in which he allegedly shot her in the feet nearly two years ago.
During a new hearing on Tuesday (April 4), a judge increased bail for Canadian rapper Lanez – real name Daystar Peterson – to $350,000 (£260,000) after ruling his recent tweets violated orders, prohibiting him from contacting or harassing Megan.
Accordingly Rolling Stonethe judge claimed his tweets appeared to be “clear messages” aimed at the Grammy-winning rapper.
If Peterson is to be released on bail, he is further barred from mentioning Megan “on any social media.” His attorney has confirmed bail will be posted.
The trial date is tentatively set for September 14 after a judge at the December preliminary hearing ruled that prosecutors had sufficient evidence to call a jury.
In December, Los Angeles detective Ryan Stogner confirmed that Peterson allegedly fired a semi-automatic weapon near Megan’s feet, injuring her.
Recounting his interviews with Megan, Stogner said, “As she got out of the vehicle, she heard Mr. Peterson shouting obscenities at her, and he said, ‘Dance, bitch!’ And then he started firing a gun at her.”
“[Megan] watched Mr Peterson holding a firearm and then watched him start shooting,” he added.
Peterson was formally charged on Oct. 8, 2020, with one charge of assaulting Megan with a semi-automatic handgun that “personally inflicted grievous bodily harm” and one charge of carrying a loaded and unregistered firearm in a vehicle.
