AccuWeather Forecasters were on the lookout for a major storm expected to pass through the Plains and Mississippi Valley, which brings snow to the northern and western United States.

On the warmer side, tornadoes pose a threat to the south-central U.S. from late Wednesday through Thursday night, with some intense storms likely.

The biggest threat from hurricanes is likely to be strong gusts of wind that can cause damage. Flash floods and hail are also possible.

Many major cities will be in the path of the storm, including Dallas and Oklahoma City. According to AccuWeather, Small stone, MemphisNashville and parts of Western Kentucky are also in the threat zone.

The severe weather threat was labeled “mild” by the National Weather Service on Monday. Risk is considered 2 on a scale of 1 to 5 with 5 being the lowest.

However, levels can increase throughout the week.

The freezing temperatures followed Monday’s snowfall with wind chills reaching number one.

Now, National Weather Service warns that the central, southern and eastern United States will face a winter that combines heavy rain and snow, leading to possible flooding and thunderstorms.

Snow is likely to fall from northern Texas to northern New England Wednesday through Thursday, according to AccuWeather.

South-central Kansas to central Missourinorthern Illinois and central Michigan are also expected to receive heavy snow.

Many states are expected to have dangerous and slippery travel conditions. Schools may be postponed or canceled in Kansas City, St. Louis and Chicago, as snow can reach half a foot.

In the northwest, heavy snowfall can combine with gusts of wind to create limited visibility or even blizzard-like conditions, AccuWeather said.

High winds, hail and tornadoes are expected Wednesday through Thursday from Dallas to Birmingham, Alabama.

Meanwhile, an icy combination of hail and rain could also make landfall from Oklahoma to Indiana.
