Big news in the professional wrestling business.
All Elite Wrestling President Tony Khan announced Wednesday night on AEW Dynamite that he has purchased Ring of Honor, a promotion that has seen many of the stars on his roster throughout their careers, from Sinclair Broadcast Group .
Ring of Honor turned 20 last week.
It was paused in late 2021 due to an announced reorganization and was set to return for SuperCard of Honor in April. The deal includes the Ring of Honor program library, intellectual property and production equipment. Adding the ROH content library to their own would make AEW even more attractive in any streaming deal they would pursue.
“Ring of Honor’s impact on modern professional wrestling is permanently engraved in the history books and this acquisition ensures its legacy will be kept alive and treated with the utmost respect,” Khan said in a statement. “This deal adds thousands of hours of content to our rapidly growing library and creates new opportunities to expand our presence nationally and globally, while also giving us the potential to produce new content under the ROH banner.
“I will immediately begin exploring ways to make ROH’s video library available to fans, who will have the opportunity to witness the early careers of some of AEW’s biggest stars.”
Bryan Danielson, CM Punk, Adam Cole, Britt Baker, Hangman Page, Eddie Kingston, Keith Lee, Christopher Daniels, Kenny Omega, Jon Moxley, Bobby Fish, Kyle O’Reilly, The Young Bucks and more than two dozen other AEW artists were talents in the ring of honor.
Khan, the son of billionaire Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan, also has a role in the NFL franchise and is the GM and sporting director of UK football team Fulham FC.
