This morning Viewers have shared their support for Alison Hammond after she was spotted crying on live TV.
The presenter discussed obesity on Friday (March 4) episode This morning as she became visibly emotional and sobbed as she responded to a viewer’s phone call for advice.
“I’ve had obesity all my life,” she said, “and what it is is that your regulatory system is out of whack. Obviously, you can’t control wanting to eat all the time. Many people don’t know that obesity is a disease.
“People look down on people just because they’re so tall,” she continued. “And they can’t really help if you have an illness.
“Sorry, it really touches me,” she added. “It’s so hard … people don’t realize it.”
Co-host Dermot O’Leary and counseling expert Deidre Sanders comforted Hammond when she was visibly overwhelmed, and viewers also took to social media to praise and support the presenter.
“Alison is a freaking inspiration to a lot of people,” one person wrote. “She’s incredible for being so open about her fight against obesity and the stigma surrounding obesity.
“She doesn’t have to apologize for crying shows how hurtful comments and judgments from people can cut deep. Great respect.”
“I’m sure you shed many tears, especially those who got it,” wrote another. “Big hugs. (Ps, @radioleary, your support of Alison was amazing!)”
“When I saw Alison so upset I just wanted to hug her. Girl, you are one of the most beautiful, kind hearted women on TV! Love watching you and Dermot on a Friday,” wrote another fan.
