The Yankees have always been adept at inflating the value of their prospects and then trading them for needed pieces to improve their major league roster.

That’s clear not what happened to shortstop prospects Anthony Volpe and Oswald Peraza. The Yankees are putting on — and better be right — the kids after enduring free-agent madness on both sides of the recently-broken MLB suspension and watching five former All-Star shortstops go elsewhere this offseason have signed.

“We feel like we have a good team and we’re running out of the highest salaries we’ve ever had in our history,” GM Brian Cashman said Monday.
