The Weeknd replaces Kanye West as Coachella headliner

Right in the middle of the Kanye West news retires as headliner, Coachella has announced that the Grammy winner will be replaced by The Weeknd and Swedish House Mafia at the upcoming event. Coachella organizers tweeted the updated lineup in a tweet on Wednesday morning.

The move marks the second Coachella headlining spot for The Weeknd, which previously topped the list in 2018. Swedish House Mafia was originally slated to play a special guest set but has now been pushed into the main seat originally occupied by West and is scheduled to perform on April 17th and 24th.

Billie Eilish and Harry Styles, who also headline, remain as performers for the two dates on Friday and Saturday respectively.

The reason for West’s departure is unclear. However, it comes after the “Eazy” singer, 44, abruptly pulled out of the event amid a falling out with fellow headliner Billie Eilish. whom he accused of wanting to diss fellow rapper Travis Scott.

“Bad Guy” singer Eilish reportedly stopped a show in Atlanta to ask her crew to give a viewer with respiratory problems an inhaler.

“I’m waiting for people to be okay before moving on,” she said, which some took as a flippant indication of when 10 people died at the Scott’s Astroworld Festival in Houston in November.

That didn’t sit well with West, who said he would refuse to perform at Coachella unless the singer apologized.

However, Eilish, 20, insisted that she “literally never said anything about Travis” and “only helped a fan.”

This isn’t the first time West hasn’t turned up for a high-profile performance. The “Eazy” rapper was also blocked from appearing at the 2022 Grammy Awards on Sunday after a show representative called out “regarding online behavior.”

west finally refused to appear at the ceremony, despite winning two trophies, Best Rap Song for “Jail” and Best Melodic Rap Performance for “Hurricane.” He was nominated in three other categories, including Album of the Year for his 2021 gospel-inspired album Donda.

page six exclusively reported Friday that West, 44, told his ex-wife Kim Kardashian that he was “going to get help” and would “not be making any public appearances or inflammatory social media statements.”

The message followed him month-long “Diss” campaign against comedian Pete Davidson, 28, who has been dating Kardashian, 41, since the fall.
