He started bodybuilding at the age of 12 when he saw his father lifting weights in the garage.

At the time, Jake told his father, Chris Schellenschlager, that he “wants to be the strongest kid in the world one day”.

By the time he was 14 years old, he was training every day and was able to lift up to 300lbs.

He broke the squat world record for his age and weight at the Powerlifting Bench Press Championship in York, Pennsylvania.

It was his dream to continue competing and set records in his weight class.

Jake, from Maryland, looks unrecognizable seven years have passed – and his dream seems to have come true while he’s still lifting weights.

On his Instagram, he says he is a WG Youth Fitness Ambassador and holds many world records.

He regularly posts pictures of his fitness progress to his nearly 3,000 followers.

When he was a teenager, Jake’s trainer, Mike Sarni, praised his mental strength.

Mike told the Washington Post: “He didn’t feel like he could be defeated. It was his inner strength that told him, ‘I can do this.’

“Typically, you just get that in older, more mature people.”

Jake’s father, Chris, said at the time he was aware of the risks to his son’s health – but he was always supervised.

He said: “‘Some don’t believe it’s good to start weight training too early.

“But Jake never complained about being hurt or hurt, and he went for regular check-ups.”

He added: “You don’t want your kid sitting on the couch and playing video games.”
