The source claims the man’s injuries weren’t from Mike Tyson’s fist

Mike Tyson can obviously pack a powerful punch, but according to a source, it wasn’t heavy enough to bloody Melvin Townsend III.

“If Mike had really hit him, he would have been put down! These cuts are not from Mike Tyson’s fist. [Townsend] was so absent-minded that he banged his head open [airplane] tray table,” claimed a source close to Tyson who was not on board.

A video showed Tyson punching Townsend several times in the head after the passenger molested the former heavyweight boxing champion in a Jetblue fight from San Francisco to Miami on Wednesday.

“Mike is not a monster… This little hole was taunting him, provoking him and before he did that, Mike was so nice to him. He politely asked him to leave him alone and taunted Mike over and over again,” the source said.

Tyson “of course got fed up” after Townsend threw a water bottle at him, the source said.

Tyson has walked away from the air scuffle. On Friday, he was spotted leaving the Eden Rock Hotel in white shorts, white sneakers, a black T-shirt and a silver Dior backpack. Bystanders appeared to cheer for “Iron Mike,” who is not currently charged with his plane brawl.

Tyson was in town for the Benzinga Cannabis Conference. He was one of the keynote speakers, representing Tyson 2.0, his “full-spectrum” cannabis line.

“Mike was with Rick Flair and Rick Ross…everyone loves him. Nobody said anything bad. Fans have been asking for selfies,” the Tyson insider said. “He’ll be in Michigan [Saturday] for his cannabis company… [Mike’s] moved on and he won’t let any stupid character dim his light,” the insider added.

Meanwhile, Townsend “has hired an attorney due to his physical injuries, the overwhelming nature of this event and the media inquiries surrounding it,” according to TMZ.

Townsend’s attorney has not returned a request to The Post, and a representative for Tyson has not commented. Tyson is in Miami Beach now.
