“They said, you know, that’s battery, that was the word they were using at that moment,” Packer said. “They said we’ll go get him; we are prepared. We’re ready to get him right away. You can file charges. We can arrest him. They laid out the options, and as they spoke, Chris was very opposed to those options. He said, “No, I’m fine.” He said, ‘No, no, no.’”
In a statement released Sunday night by the LAPD, “investigating authorities were aware of the incident” that occurred between Rock and Smith during the show, but “the individual concerned has declined to file a police report.”

“If the party involved desires a police report at a later date, the LAPD is available to complete an investigative report,” the statement said.
Packer, who led the show’s first all-black production team at the 94th Academy Awards, told GMA that he did not speak directly to Smith on the night of the Oscars.
On Wednesday, the academy released a statement that Smith was asked to leave the ceremony and refused.
The Academy announced that its Board of Governors had initiated disciplinary proceedings against Smith “for violations of the Academy’s standards of conduct, including inappropriate physical contact, abusive or threatening behavior, and endangering the integrity of the Academy.”
