The NFL’s widespread popularity and ability to masterfully promote the league’s most mundane events as must-attend television events is never more evident — or more puzzling — than in the anticipation and interest in Thursday night’s three-hour celebration and analysis of the release of the 2022 schedule League.
Not to be too grumpy here – who am I kidding? Get off my fucking lawn – but please explain the appeal of watching this boring “news” especially when the NHL and NBA playoffs are in full swing and baseball season is shaping up to be a special summer where the Yankees and the Mets both drop out for first place and a combined 43-19 record.
Of course you do. Far be it from me to tell anyone what to see or enjoy.
For years, NBC’s Thursday night TV schedule has been billed as “Must See TV,” with favorites like “Cheers,” “Seinfeld,” “ER,” “30 Rock,” “The Office,” and so many others. But personally, I’d rather watch reruns of the most over-hyped sitcoms of all time – like “Friends” – or just about anything else on my hundreds of channels and multiple streaming services, than listen to NFL Network’s Talking Heads, who bring us the Meaning of telling the first meeting between the Vikings and the lions.
