The Overwatch 2 Sojourn gameplay reveal trailer got a surprising early glimpse of Ashe in action, and players are already split on what to make of her new redesign.
After months of anticipation, Overwatch fans finally got theirs first official look at Sojourn thanks to a new gameplay trailer.
From advanced movement skills to a devastating “Overclock” ultimate, the reveal of her complete kit was definitely the highlight. Though throughout the footage we did see the new Damage hero going toe-to-toe with some familiar faces.
Among them was none other than Ashe, who has yet to be officially reintroduced for the sequel. To this day we know how 15 classic heroes Look with their fresh Overwatch 2 redesigns.
Now we can add Ashe to the list thanks to an appearance in the trailer, although her first impression certainly divided fans.
Overwatch fans praise the new Ashe design
In keeping with other hero overhauls in the sequel, Ashe reappears in Overwatch 2 with a slight visual upgrade. Rather than a total redesign, subtle changes were made to overhaul their appearance.
From a new haircut to a slightly different outfit, the touch-up was quickly praised by a majority of fans online.
“One of the best redesigns for sure”, Reddit user’The hero of heroes‘ claims. “Looks different enough, shows that time has passed, retains important parts of the original design, but most of all, looks damn good.”
Though not everyone was thrilled about the slight changes for Ashe in the upcoming sequel.
Some players didn’t sell Ashe in Overwatch 2
Redesigns have been divisive from the start as Blizzard attempts to “engineer” distinctive looks that fans have grown accustomed to over the past six years.
‘Another character that made her look a lot worse’, ‘Khaotic crab‘ replied on Reddit. “Garbage.”
While others joked that the new design “looks just like Ashe on her day off,” others were even more stunned by the makeover.
“Someday someone will have to tell me the difference between one of those ‘redesign’ images and just a new skin,” said another player called.
Of course, not everyone is convinced that Ashe and other original heroes need a redesign at all. Perhaps that tune will change once fans finally get their hands on the highly-anticipated sequel upcoming beta.
