A MYSTERY unfolds after an unidentified woman is found stuffed into a bloody duffel bag by a dog walker on a popular trail.
The man’s two dogs led him to the discovery and helped investigators uncover a fresh trail of blood.
Police arrived at the scene just after 8 a.m. Saturday after Glenn Van Nostrand called 911.
The holdall was discovered by Van Nostrand near Metropolitan Avenue and Forest Park Drive in Queens, New York.
He had been walking his two Rhodesian Ridgebacks, who became irritated when they found the bag.
Van Nostrand told the New York Post he peeked into the bag and saw what appeared to be a mannequin.
But then he saw blood.
Investigators said the bloodied body was still intact and not dismembered.
When Van Nostrand went home to drop his dogs off, the two dogs made another discovery: a fresh trail of blood.
A short time later, police identified another crime scene at a house on Juno Street.
Neighbors told ABC7 that a family of four lives in the house – a mother, father and two sons. They have lived in the house for about 10 years.
As the investigation continues, police believe the woman may be the mother and that she may have been killed by a family member.
Investigators confirmed to ABC7 that one of the sons is being questioned.
No further details on a possible suspect or motive were released.
Neighbors in the area have been shocked by the discovery.
“I’m getting sick,” Mara Newman told the New York Post.
“I don’t feel safe. I will not walk here at night. I can’t believe a… body would be dumped on the side of the road.”
Van Nostrand also called the discovery “shocking” and told the Post, “My personal feeling is heartbreak for whoever this is.
“My heart was in my throat the whole time.”
