The Mets-Nationals Opening Day game may be broadcast on Apple TV+

With rain forecast for Washington, the Mets opener could be in the dark for non-tech fans.
The Weather Channel’s forecast for Thursday’s first Mets game late afternoon in DC puts a 90 percent chance of rain.
If the weather cooperates, there’s no problem as fans can catch Thursday’s show on SNY starring Gary Cohen, Keith Hernandez and Ron Darling.
However, if it’s postponed and opening day is Friday night, then this game will mark the debut of Apple TV+, which is likely to cause some anxiety among fans who either don’t have the service or don’t know how to activate it.
Apple’s initial offering will be free for anyone with internet access.

There’s a chance a day-night doubleheader is planned for Friday, which would allow SNY to host the afternoon opener and Apple TV+ the second game of the night.
Without the lockout delay, some teams schedule a day off for the day after their opening game to avoid such an issue. The Nationals don’t have that luxury.
Whether it’s game one or two, Apple TV+ will still have announcers to name, but it won’t be Cohen, Hernandez and Darling.
Aside from paying Apple $85 million a year, MLB believes it’s important to use new technology to engage fans as the cable bundle dwindles.
As for the prognosis, MLB is hoping for the best.
“No changes have been made to the schedule at this time,” said an MLB spokesman.
