The family of the 13-year-old who was shot dead while driving on I-610 North Loop want answers as the search for suspects continues

Joseph Jimenez, 13, known to his loved ones as “Jojo,” was shot dead in what the family calls a traffic incident. Houston police confirmed to ABC13 that the shooting occurred in the early hours of March 17 in the westbound lanes between Irvington and Fulton.

There were three people in the car: Jojo, another 13-year-old who was shot and survived, and a third underage passenger who was unharmed.
Criminal Investigation is still looking for the person or persons responsible for the teenager’s shooting. On Wednesday, a spokesman for HPD told ABC13 that they are unable to share new details at this time, but said their detectives are investigating.
“Your heart just sinks, you know? You don’t want to believe it… you don’t want to believe it. And then, you know, we made a few calls and we found out it’s Joe. It’s my yo-yo,” the teen’s father said.
The family wants answers and to make sure whoever shot the 13-year-old is held accountable.
“I don’t think parents need to bury their children. I think you should bury your children,” the victim’s father said. “He should never have been where he was. The people he was with, he should never have been with them either. He just got into a bad situation.”
Jojo’s father and grandmother asked not to be shown or identified for fear of retribution. According to his family, the teenager was living with his mother at the time of his death. His loved ones said they hadn’t seen him for a while.
“It’s always a shock. But we were just so worried about (Jojo). We were afraid something like this would happen to him,” said the victim’s grandmother.
The family is still trying to process the shock.
“We don’t really know what happened. We don’t know if it was anything other than road rage,” said the victim’s grandmother.
“You don’t expect that to happen to you, especially him. He was my little boy,” said the father.
The family told ABC13 they weren’t sure why the 13-year-old was driving or where he was driving. Jojo’s father said the teenager will be buried next week.
A GoFundMe was set up to help the family with funeral expenses.
