The cause of Anne Heche’s death is determined by a coroner to be an accident following a car crash

Anne Heche’s cause of death was ruled accidental by the Los Angeles County Coroner.

The coroner revealed that Heche died of complications from smoke inhalation and thermal injuries after her car crashed into a Los Angeles home.

The report also noted that a “fractured sternum due to blunt trauma” was another “significant condition” of the collision.

On August 12, Heche’s family announced that Heche, 53, who was in a coma, had suffered a “severe anoxic brain injury” and “was not expected to survive.”

Hours later, they revealed that she was “legally dead under California law” but was kept alive while a match for organ donation was found. Heche’s life support was switched off on Sunday (08/14).

The actor was not under the influence of alcohol, according to an LAPD source, as reported by TMZbut it is alleged that there was cocaine in her system as well as fentanyl.

Heche’s family said in a statement: “We have lost a bright light, kind and very cheerful soul, loving mother and loyal friend. Anne will be greatly missed, but she lives on through her beautiful sons, iconic work and passionate advocacy.

“Her bravery in always standing in her truth and spreading her message of love and acceptance will continue to have a lasting impact.”
