A CAT lashes out at a squirrel that’s taunting bird seed – only for it to climb down and give chase.

The redhead tried to punch the gray squirrel sitting just out of reach on a tray full of birdseed.

But Moggy got a fright when the rodent, defying gravity, hung upside down and lunged at him with its sharp claws.

Not content with just scaring the cat, the squirrel slid down the metal rod of the bird feeder and chased after it.

The cat had to climb a tree to escape from the angry squirrel.

The episode was caught on camera by homeowner Andy Jones.

He said the cat was a regular visitor to his garden in Bournemouth, Dorset and he nicknamed it Mackerel.

Andy, 52, said he’s seen the cat chasing pigeons and squirrels before.

He said: “I put up a new bird feeder about a week ago and wanted to get some bird shots.

“I had just put down some food when this squirrel came by. I caught mackerel out of the corner of my eye. She saw the squirrel and started stalking it.

“She sat under the bird feeder and thought, ‘How am I going to get this squirrel?’ The squirrel just looked at the cat and continued eating.

“Then mackerel pounced on the squirrel and hit it. She shook the bird feeder, the squirrel fell off, and then the hunt continued.

“It was amazing to see the squirrel being so defiant.”
