Dashcam footage of Bears wide receiver Byron Pringle’s arrest has been released.
Pringle was arrested in South Florida on Saturday and charged with reckless driving and driving with a suspended driver’s license.
He was allegedly making donuts on State Road 56 near his home with a child in the back seat of the car.
In the video, Pringle speaks animatedly with a state police officer. When he was pulled out of the car, he asked to get out himself.
“Come on, let me out,” Pringle said.
He then asked to be arrested by a local sheriff, not the highway patrol.
When Pringle was informed that his Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat would be towed, he asked officers to be careful not to scratch the front since it is low to the ground.
Pringle joked with one of the arresting cops, saying, “You know you couldn’t catch me if I ran from you.”
“There’s no doubt about that,” the policeman replied.
Angered by the heat in the backseat of the cop’s car, Pringle said, “I see people dying in the backseat of this bitch — this bitch HEAT.”
He likened sitting in the back of the vehicle to “on a Spirit flight” because “the seats don’t recline at all.”
Pringle, 28, signed with the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent in 2018. He signed a one-year, $4 million deal with an additional $2 million in incentives with the Bears this offseason.
“I know him very well,” Chicago GM Ryan Poles said Wednesday. “It’s not at all a reflection of who he is. You don’t want your boys on the news at all. At this point it’s a disappointment. But we had good conversations about it. We’re in a good place. We keep that internally.”
