The first season of Power Book IV: Power saw Tommy Egan (Joesph Sikora) set foot in Chicago after leaving New York for good. What he didn’t expect was a friendship and trust in an old enemy, Liliana (Audrey Esparza). In the end her death gutted him.
However, Sikora says it was Esparza’s choice leave the show.
Audrey Esparza paid tribute to Liliana, her character from Power Book IV: Force.
Fans were stunned in the force Season 1 Finale when Liliana was killed by Claudia Flynn (Lili Simmons). It was particularly shocking since the women had worked together to create Dahlia. Her death completely devastated Tommy.
Esparza said goodbye to her character on her show Instagram “…and this is a WRAP,” she captioned under a photo from the set. “Thanks to all of @forcestarz’s creatives and producers for having me. @josephsikora the entire cast and the BEST fucking crew in Chicago I had a wonderful time! Thank you for making me feel so loved and welcome! I loved every minute playing Liliana. I am so thankful to xoxo.”
While fans were shocked by Liliana’s death, Esparza seems to know it was coming.
says Josef Sikora Audrey Esparza chose to be killed by “Force”.
It looks like Liliana might have survived in Season 2 if Esparza would have wanted it. However, the actor, writers and creators made a joint decision that it was time for her to leave.
“I was definitely devastated because she’s such a great actress,” Sikora said hollywood life. “Audrey is such a talented actress and I know it was a mutual decision. I think that if she had chosen to be back, she probably would have come back. I think she had other life plans and that just happened. I think with Tommy it was really interesting to respond as Tommy to her death because obviously what I was trying to express was the tremendous loss and anger at who did this to the person who is growing closer to him.”
When perfomance Fans know Tommy is no stranger to loss, but his bond with Liliana and the unexpected way she died will no doubt influence him in the future.
Tommy will react violently to Liliana’s death
As we know, Tommy has vowed never to forgive Claudia for Liliana’s death. We’re sure he’ll make her pay in Season 2. “It was harder than expected because the reality of her being dead was multi-layered,” Sikora said via TV line of Liliana’s death. “One was, Tommy is a street referee. He says, “You signed up for this life. That’s what you get.” And despite it all, he felt like, “Yeah, but she didn’t deserve this. She had my back. She played it all right.” But he still knew she was made for this life I tried to play it so that Tommy is devastated and wants revenge immediately. But also: She signed up for it. Almost like I’m leaving without the mercy of God. He’s got his own humanity in recognized her death.”
However, we doubt Vic (Shane Harper) will let Tommy get close enough to hurt his sister.
