The 16-year-old boy, who was shot in the neck after possibly playing with a gun, has been released, says Sheriff Ed Gonzalez
The incident occurred in the 5500 block of Gaston, near East Mount Houston and the Eastex Freeway.
The 16-year-old was taken to hospital in a private vehicle and was in critical condition at the last check-up, MPs said.
It is unclear who owns the gun and the investigation is ongoing.
