The Hotel for Channel migrants is empty – after taxpayers shelled out £1.5m to rent it out.
The 162-room Holiday Inn Express hotel has been booked by the Home Office for 5 months, starting in November.
But councilors in Oxford objected to it being used as a refugee centre.
A source said: “It’s amazing.
“Since the Government reservation, it has been closed to the public with a skeleton staff.”
A Home Office source said they hoped to negotiate a lower rate for the hotel, which is attached to Oxford United’s Kassam football stadium.
Rooms typically start from £50 a night and have TVs and air conditioning.
More than 18,000 migrants available at hotels across the country.
