“That’s how it is when you play against Real Madrid”

THOMAS TUCHEL is furious at the decision to ban Marcos Alonso’s second-half handball strike that cost his side a place in the Champions League semi-finals.
The reigning European champions headed against it in the second leg real Madrid hoping to close a two-goal deficit.
And all went well with goals from Mason Mount and Antonio Rudiger to level Chelsea 3-3 on aggregate.
Alonso then added a third to seemingly swing the nerve-wracking tie in Chelsea’s favour.
But after a long VAR check, the Spaniard was considered a handball player.
The decision didn’t look like it would backfire Chelsea when Timo Werner added a third.

Disaster struck ten minutes from time, however, when a goal from Rodrygo forced the game into overtime.
Benzema then added one more in extra time win the tie 5-4 on aggregate.
Tuchelwhose side won 3-2 that night, proclaimed “that’s what happens when you play Real Madrid” and publicly expressed his displeasure at the referee’s failure to check Alonso’s disallowed goal on the pitch.
The German said: “I’m very disappointed that the referee didn’t check it himself.

“That’s how it is when you play against Real Madrid in the Champions League.”
Defender Ruediger says Real made Chelsea pay for their mistakes.
The German said: “The positive thing is that we haven’t given up and not many teams come here and can dominate them like we do.
“But about the two legs, if you make the kind of mistakes that we make, you will be punished.”
In the semi-finals, Real then meets either Manchester City or city rivals Atlético Madrid.
They could face either Villarreal or Liverpool winners against Benfica in the May final.
