“That was a trans man”

Apparently the tackle wasn’t the only cheap shot that night.

Comedian Dave Chappelle has once again found himself in hot water with LGBTQ+ critics after joking that he was a “trans man”. who attacked him on stage during Tuesday’s now-viral attack.

The 48-year-old ‘Chappelle’s Show’ creator was performing at the Netflix Is a Joke festival at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles when an unnamed bystander rushed onto the stage and knocked the comedian to the ground. as seen in shocking footage. The attacker — Isaiah Lee, 23, of Los Angeles — was then removed from the venue by security, after which he was arrested by LAPD and taken to a local hospital for minor injuries. It was later revealed that Lee was booked for assault with a deadly weapon.

Officer Lizeth Lomeli, a spokeswoman for the LAPD, confirmed to The Post that Lee was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and that he was carrying a replica handgun with a blade inside.

However, after the kerfuffle, video surfaced of Chappelle leaning into the mic and q“That was a trans man.” He was probably referring to their ongoing feud with the LGBTQ community over a series of remarks and jokes that many believed were transphobic.

While the line elicited laughter from audiences, it didn’t sit well with some online critics, who accused the prankster of taking a cheap shot.

“All of these people ignore the fact that Dave Chappelle joked that it was a ‘trans man’ who ran onto the stage to hit him, although we don’t know who it was.” raged an outraged commenter on Twitter. “All we know is that things are going to get worse in this country and it’s only gotten worse for trans people, and Dave encourages that.”

another wrote, “Dave Chappelle gets attacked on stage and the first thing he mentions is trans people. This man is possessed.”

“Dave Chappelle targets trans people with devastating jokes.” wrote one critic. “An unknown man attacks Chappelle. As the crowd celebrates his assailant being crushed by security forces, Chappelle turns the collective celebration of violence to focus not on free speech but on trans identity.”

One LGBTQ advocate commented: “Dave Chappelle was attacked on stage last night and decided this was the perfect opportunity to crack a trans joke. What an absolute garbage man.”

However, many commentators rallied around Chappelle, and some defenders accused the LGBTQ community of taking his joke more seriously than the attack.

“DAVE CHAPPELLE WAS ATTACKED,” wrote an avid Chappelle supporter. “It’s not about trans people! Take a rest. Do you hear yourself at all? This man attacked him with a knife AND a gun, but you’re worried about a bad joke? I understand…”

“Imagine Dave Chappelle being attacked on stage and the LGBTQ+ community is all about her.” complained another. “The man tells jokes. People laugh and then go back into the doom and gloom, folks, like you’re pushing our collective throats down again and again, like we have to deal with your feelings. No we don’t.”

“I don’t want to hear ‘Dave Chappelle is anti-trans’ nonsense. Tonight he helped switch a man to a pretzel.” quipped a Twitter joke in relation to a Graphic video of the attacker with a mutilated elbow after clashing with security forces.

After the attack, the attacker is carried away on a stretcher.

This isn’t the first time Chappelle has been in hot water with the trans community lately. In October, LGBTQ advocates have been begging Netflix to remove the ‘Half Baked’ star’s latest special, ‘The Closer’, from their catalogue because it contained inflammatory jokes about transgender women.

Chappelle was specifically accused of defending what many perceived as such problematic comments by rappers DaBaby and Harry Potter author JK Rowlingas well as deflecting criticism he faced wise crack about the trans community in previous specials “Equanimity” and “Sticks and stones.”

In “The Closer”, Chappelle explains that he is joining Rowling in “Team TERF!”. (the acronym for trans exclusionary radical feminist) and rapper DaBaby’s homophobic remarks at a summer show have been linked to systemic racism. So far, the special is still available on Netflix.

Despite the inflammatory comments, the comic claimed in the special that it has no “hatred” for the LGBTQ community.

“Oh, I’m jealous. I’m not the only black person feeling this way. We look at the gay community, we say, ‘Damn it – look at how well this movement is going! Look how good you are,'” the comedian said. “And we have been trapped in this predicament for hundreds of years. How the hell do you make such progress?”
