Texas students found sanctuary at funeral home after shooting: report

During the insane gunman’s attack on Robb Elementary School, some of the children reportedly took refuge in an unusual location – a funeral home across from the scene.
A local minister told KENS 5 that during the shooting, the terrified students fled their school and huddled at the Hillcrest Memorial Funeral Home.
“When I entered the funeral home and saw all the children just sitting on benches crying,” Minister Marcela Cabralez told the news agency.
“It’s indescribable how you feel in that moment with so many desperate kids and hearing them tell you – (while) you can see the blood on their legs, on their clothes – that they saw bullets fly past them,” she said.
Cabralez said the young survivors need help coping with the trauma of losing 19 schoolmates and two teachers in Tuesday’s attack.
“There is life after the storm, but so are the survivors,” she told KENS 5.
“I think we have to help them because they are so small. We can’t assume that they are little and don’t know what happened and they will forget,” Cabralez said.
“No, they’re going to carry that around and it’s important for me, for these kids, that they get well,” she added.
According to authorities, Ramos began his killing spree when he shot his grandmother in the face, then took her pickup truck, drove about a mile to the elementary school and crashed into a ditch.

He first shot two bystanders outside the funeral home before launching his attack in earnest inside the school.
