Texas ranchers audited by the IRS are issuing a stark warning to Americans

Texas cattlemen David and Deborah Hajda have issued a dire warning to America’s middle class after the Democrats’ spending bill passed both chambers of Congress and earmarked about $80 billion in IRS funds, much of which is earmarked for enforcement is.

Raising Five Cattle Company ranchers spoke with Dana Perino on Tuesday on America’s Newsroom, where they recounted the grueling tax audit they endured 13 years ago.

“We were basically being audited for a $7,800 engine rebuild on a very old tractor,” Deborah said.

“They basically just said this was a red flag and we’re going to audit you and come to your house,” she added.

Hajda said she asked if she could fax her bank records to the IRS, but they refused to give her the option. Instead, they came to her home and personally requested all of her financial records.

“I took out our box of receipts … and we gave them to him and I said, ‘Here are your receipts’ … we didn’t hide anything,” she said.

Perino asked if the IRS agent only visited the ranchers to fill a quota.

“Probably. They said they marked it because our expenses were high that year and it was because of this repair,” David replied.

The Hajdas said although they could not afford to replace the tractor, they kept all records of the expenses incurred in making the necessary repairs. However, the examiner would not give up so easily.

“He wasn’t satisfied. He kept digging, and in the end he nailed us. Our taxpayer gave us 80% on our work vehicles and he said you can only pay 50%,” David said.

“I assessed the situation very naively. I had no idea of the power, the scope [of the audit] in three years of my life … and I have no control over that, no control over the information that he received,” Deborah said.

“It was very invasive. You feel very offended because this guy wanted to go back and say, ‘I got her.'”

She went on to issue a warning to other middle-class Americans who may soon endure the same process.

“They want to get you. If they’re after you for an exam, they don’t want to see your receipt…they want to pick apart your life, and that’s not the American dream for self-employment, small business…”
