A gunman killed two people and injured four others – including three Texas police officers – before taking his own life in a shooting near Fort Worth on Saturday night.
Police received a 911 call about gunshots fired in a residential area by an “elderly” woman, who was later shot in the leg around 6:45 p.m., according to footage of a press conference at the scene released by WFAA-TV.
Officers arrived at the scene and fired with the suspect, injuring three police officers who were expected to survive their injuries. Each of the three officers was shot in the leg and one sustained injuries to his hand, according to Sgt. Rick Alexander
The unidentified gunman then took his own life and was found next to a “military rifle and pistol near his arms,” Alexander said.
According to police, a woman was found dead in a house and a man was found dead near a motorcycle in the driveway of the house. The relationship between the shooter and the victims was not immediately clear.
A “rather lengthy” search for the shooter ended when police found him about a block from the scene.
“Let’s work; We will get all the information out as soon as possible. But just pray for all of us, the families, and we will get through this and be strong as we always are,” Alexander said.
It was not clear what prompted the violence, which prompted police to issue a statement urging residents to remain in their homes just after 8pm
“We work in an active scene and have an armed suspect,” the department said in a Facebook post.
“He is described as a white male with dark hair, wearing a blue shirt, blue pants and ‘battle belt’ and armed with a rifle.”
Several police officers, including members of a SWAT team, were seen flock to a residential area.
The Texas Rangers took over the investigation, local police said.
