Teen found dead: 19-year-old arrested in connection with the deaths of two students at Woodlands High School, authorities say

Abdulbaaith Adewale, 19, is accused of selling fentanyl-laced drugs to 17-year-old Grant Blodgett and 18-year-old Irene Sutherland.

On May 5, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a Stanwick Place home in relation to a double homicide investigation. Blodgett and Sutherland were identified as the teenagers found dead of a drug overdose.

According to the authorities, toxicology results showed the presence of fentanyl. An investigation into her death led authorities to Adewale, who received two charges of manufacturing or supplying a controlled substance that resulted in death or serious bodily harm, according to the sheriff’s office.

Authorities add that Adewale has a history in Montgomery County, as he faced three charges of possession of a controlled substance in 2021, but completed a program and the charges were dismissed.

“This is an example of the law recently passed by the Texas Legislature that allows us to indict those who supply illegal narcotics that cause the deaths of our citizens. Let this be a warning to those who sell illegal narcotics: Montgomery County law enforcement is committed to finding you and holding you accountable not only for selling illegal narcotics, but for the deaths,” said Sheriff Rand Henderson in a press release.

After the students’ bodies were found last week, Woodlands High School principal Dr. Ted Landry, an email to the families, in which he said:

“highlander family,

It is with great sadness that I am writing to inform you of the loss of two of our senior Highlanders this morning. While I am unable to share any further details at this time, please keep the families in your thoughts and prayers. Members of the CISD Crisis Support Team worked with our campus administrators today and will be back on campus tomorrow to support students and staff.
As your student processes this event, you may observe your child expressing sadness, fear, and/or confusion; live out or withdraw; show anger at death; and worried about their own safety.

Some ways you can support your child are: spending time with your child and keeping them safe; talk about this event in an age-appropriate context; observing conversations, including text messages, your child has with peers; have an open and honest discussion about feelings; and encouraging writing, drawing, and journaling.”

Editor’s Note: In a previous version of this story, a student’s name was listed as Gregory Blodgett based on information obtained by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. The sheriff’s office has since clarified that his name is Grant.
