Foo Fighters fans remember the time Taylor Hawkins was beaten by Prince Harry after the drummer died aged 50.
A statement was posted on the band’s Twitter on Friday (March 25) announcing that the musician had died.
“The Foo Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved Taylor Hawkins,” the band said.
“Our hearts go out to his wife, children and family and we ask that their privacy be treated with the utmost respect at this unimaginably difficult time.”
Following the announcement, fans of the band shared their fondest memories of Hawkins on social media.
One such story was that of Hawkins being punched by Prince Harry at an event in 2014, which Hawkins explained when he performed The Howard Stern Show last year.
The drummer joked that it “actually pissed me off”: “We were playing somewhere in England and we had just flown over and literally had two hours of sleep and we were playing a show in some Ambassador’s Backyard or something.
“He came in, Prince Harry, and he had a bunch of his people around him. He says, “How are you?” and I’m like, ‘I can’t wake up, so tired. I have to play, I can’t wake up.’”
Hawkins then described how the king slapped him in the face with a “bam” sound.
“I said, ‘You motherf***er!’ he said. “And then his two boys are right there. He said, ‘Are you awake now?’ or something like that. I said, ‘Yes.’
“I was slapped in the face by the prince. That’s really okay when you think about it. But at that moment I was like, ‘You fucking slapped me, dude.'”
