But 23 goals later Abraham says he has “fallen in love” with the Italian capital.

On Sunday, the Champions League winner bagged a brace Derby with stadium mates Lazio.

His goalscoring exploits saw him break club legends Gabriel Batistuta and Vicenzo Montella 21-goal debut season record.

And he’s in awe of the manager Mourinhowhom he knew from his time at Chelsea academy.

Abraham said, “I still look up to him as an idol. And I’ve never told him that, but every time I see him I’m still blown away even though I see him every day.

“When he was at Chelsea I was there but I was just a little kid.

“I trained with him a few times so I knew a little bit what he’s like and since I’ve been here I’ve called him my uncle from Rome.”

Abraham was initially unsure about a move to Roma but was confident in the club’s ambitions.

He continued, “At first, when they contacted me, I was like, ‘This isn’t for me.’

“But when people explain their ambitions to you and show that they trust you and make you feel valuable, then you want to give them everything you can.

“As soon as I got here, I fell in love with this place.”
