SUV in New Mexico drives through parade, seven people are injured

Several people were injured after a vehicle drove through a celebratory parade in Gallup, New Mexico on Thursday. according to the state police.

Recordings from social media photographed a brown SUV meandering through the annual Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonial Parade, one of New Mexico’s longest-running events.

Among the injured were two Gallup Police Department officers who were being treated for their injuries.

According to KOAT7, the driver drove the parade route in the wrong direction. The outlet reports that two other people were in the SUV.

The driver of the SUV was arrested. Officers arrested the two passengers while participants in the parade shouted angrily and confronted the trio.

The names of the suspects have not yet been released.

The Gallup Intertribal Ceremonial is a 10-day celebration made up of in-person and virtual events. The city celebrated the 100th anniversary of the annual event this year, while the parade culminated in the celebrations on the first night.
